Two faceted heads face off against a mottled teal-brown ground
Paul Klee — A Pair of Gods (Ein Paar Götter) | Bauhaus Fine Art Print
Note: Framed prints require slightly longer production time
Two tall faceted heads fill the square against a mottled teal, grey and rust ground. The left god has a brown face with a feathery vertical fringe down its centre, one round eye and one square eye, black brows and a small blue nose; the right has a pale grey face, two turquoise eyes and a blue rectangular nose. A black arrow points left at the upper left, teal dots drift in the top corner, and along the base sit a teal half-disc in a brown square, a pale disc bearing a six-pointed star, and a red-and-white crosshatched disc.
Paul Klee (1879–1940) was one of the most inventive artists of the twentieth century. Swiss-born and trained in Munich, he joined Kandinsky and Marc in the Blaue Reiter circle, found colour on a journey to Tunisia in 1914, and taught at the Bauhaus from 1921 to 1931, where his lectures on line, tone and colour became a theory of pictorial form. His small paintings and drawings move between geometry, script, humour and dream. After the Nazi regime dismissed him in 1933 he returned to Bern. His work is held by the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
