Ibrahim Sultan (1394–1435) was a Timurid prince — grandson of Timur (Tamerlane) and governor of Shiraz — who was himself a distinguished calligrapher and one of the most important patrons of manuscript production in 15th-century Persia. The Quran produced under his direct patronage, written in the Muhaqqaq and Thuluth scripts in Shiraz, is one of the masterworks of Timurid calligraphic art: a manuscript of exceptional technical precision and illuminated with borders and headings of extraordinary refinement. It stands at the apex of the Timurid manuscript tradition.
