The United States Information Agency (USIA) produced a remarkable series of exhibition posters in the postwar decades, presenting major American artists to international audiences as part of the cultural diplomacy of the Cold War era. Posters for exhibitions of Imogen Cunningham (1883–1976) — one of the great photographers of the 20th century, known for her botanical close-ups and portraits — and Richard Hunt (born 1935) — a Chicago sculptor whose welded metal abstractions brought modernist form to public sculpture — represent this tradition at its most graphically refined.
