The Italian Art Deco poster tradition — represented by racing posters for the Targa Florio, Cinzano, and Fiat events of the 1920s and 1930s — produced some of the most dynamically graphic images of the age of speed. These posters, commissioned to promote the great Italian motor races and luxury brands, combine the formal vocabulary of international Art Deco with a distinctly Italian sense of theatrical energy, primary colour, and mechanical glamour. They belong to the tradition of Italian graphic design that ran from the great futurists through to the postwar masters.
