Dramatic Art Prints

Two knights in scale armour face each other in a sunlit meadow below a hilltop castle. At left, seen from behind, one in a blue surcoat and pointed helm grips his sword hilt, a tall shield at his side; opposite, a dark-haired knight in a red surcoat bearing a gold heraldic beast holds his helmet under one arm. Beyond, a lady on a white horse and a figure in green wait near a form lying in the grass. From the 1917 edition of The Boy's King Arthur.

N. C. Wyeth (1882–1945) was an American painter and illustrator. Born in Needham, Massachusetts, he studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School and the Eric Pape School of Art before joining Howard Pyle in the Brandywine Valley. His first commission was a 1903 Saturday Evening Post cover, and trips West fed a run of cowboy and Native American subjects. His illustrations for Scribner's Treasure Island (1911) paid for his house and studio at Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and were followed by Kidnapped and The Last of the Mohicans. His work is held by the Brandywine Museum of Art, which preserves his studio, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
