Two fish dive head-first into stylised, curling wave bands rendered in pale blue-grey line on a dark ground, their tails arcing up into a solid dark night sky scattered with a bright radiating star, a smaller eight-pointed star and a small pale planet at the end of a long curving trail, with bubbles rising from the waves. A lower panel captioned PISCES in blocky lettering is flanked by two small astrological glyphs. The sheet is a woodcut, pencil-signed at the lower right.
Henri van der Stok (1870–1946) turned to art after fourteen years as a Dutch naval officer. Largely self-taught apart from lessons with Philippe Zilcken and Willem van Konijnenburg, he worked in The Hague as a painter, sculptor, stained-glass designer and printmaker, making etchings, engravings, lithographs and woodcuts. He won a silver medal for his woodcuts in Utrecht and exhibited at the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Décoratifs. His prints are held by the Rijksmuseum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
