Kawase Hasui (1883–1957) was a master of shin-hanga, the revolutionary "new woodblock" movement that transformed Japanese printmaking in the 20th century. Hasui is celebrated for his luminous night scenes—moonlit temples, rain-soaked streets, nocturnal water landscapes—each rendered with atmospheric depth and subtle color that evoke mood over mere representation. His works epitomize shin-hanga's marriage of traditional ukiyo-e technique with modernist sensibility.
This print is hand-printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper using a 12-ink archival giclée process. Museum studios use this same paper stock. Each print is individually crafted to museum conservation standards, acid-free and rated for 200+ years of color stability. Whether unframed or displayed in one of our hand-made FSC-certified wood frames, this is a collector-grade piece, not a poster.
