Édouard Travies (1809–1866) was a French illustrator and naturalist artist who contributed to several major natural history publications of the mid-19th century — a period when the documentary illustration of birds, mammals, and exotic fauna reached an extraordinary level of scientific precision and aesthetic beauty. His depictions of tropical and exotic birds, executed with careful observation and elegant graphic technique, belong to the tradition that produced Audubon's Birds of America and the great illustrated natural history atlases of the Victorian era.
