Marcel Roux (1878–1922) was a French symbolist draughtsman and printmaker whose ink drawings — reapers, nightbeasts, dancing skeletons, spiders — rank among the most psychologically disturbing graphic works of the early 20th century. Working in a tradition that connects Félicien Rops and Francisco Goya to Expressionism, he produced images of death, dread, and the occult with a technical mastery and emotional directness that makes them impossible to dismiss as mere illustration. He died at 44, leaving a compact body of work that is increasingly recognised as a masterpiece of the dark-Symbolist tradition.
