Maynard Dixon (1875–1946) was the pre-eminent painter of the American Southwest, whose monumental, spare landscapes of the desert, the plains, and the open sky define the visual mythology of the region. A significant figure in American Regionalism, his work is held in the Smithsonian American Art Museum and major Western collections.
