A red-framed grid divides the page into compartments: at the upper left a haloed man drinks from a cup, at the upper right a haloed man grinds with a pestle in a mortar, and between them a shelf holds six ceramic storage jars, one large at the centre. Below, a seated haloed figure watches as a bearded, haloed man in a mauve robe stirs a golden cauldron with a long rod while holding a small cup. Arabic naskh text fills the page above and below.

Abdullah ibn al-Fadl was a calligrapher working in Baghdad in the early thirteenth century. In 1224 he copied an illustrated Arabic translation of De Materia Medica, the Greek treatise on medicines by Dioscorides (c. 40–90 CE). He was long believed to have painted its illustrations as well, though that attribution is not certain. The manuscript was later broken up, and its leaves, with scenes of physicians and the preparation of remedies, are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Freer Gallery of Art.

Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
