Two long legs in sheer orange-toned stockings cross at the knee against a rippling red drape, one foot in an orange high-heeled shoe at the lower left. White script lettering names the Idene stocking brand across the lower half of the poster, with smaller lettering beneath it. Bold black lettering at the upper left names the retailer, and the artist's name is printed in small type at the upper right against the flat red ground.

Johannes Handschin (1899–1948), also known as Hans Handschin, was a Swiss poster artist of the Basel school. Trained as an architect, he specialised in the airbrush, which gave him both flat and hyperrealist images, and also worked in lithography and linocut. His posters of the 1930s advertised products, Alpine holiday resorts and social causes in a clear, sober graphic language dominated by a single ground colour. His posters are held by the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich and the Basel Poster Collection.
