Santiago Rusiñol (1861–1931) was the defining figure of Catalan Modernisme and one of the most celebrated Spanish painters of his generation. A central figure at Els Quatre Gats in Barcelona and a major influence on the young Picasso, his garden paintings — particularly his Andalusian patios and formal gardens — are among the most beautiful landscape works of the Symbolist era.
