Two figures raise a bowl toward a shield in flame-like ornament

Two figures stand with their backs to the viewer, one in a fur-trimmed cloak and dark cap, the other bareheaded. The taller figure raises a shallow dish in one hand; the smaller lifts an open hand toward a tall oval shield marked with three crosses. Swirling flame-like ornament in orange and cream, crowned by a grotesque mask, frames the shield. Bold lettering across the top and base names the exhibition and its two host museums, with the years 1275 and 1925 set in roundels.

Huib Luns (1881–1942) was a Dutch painter, sculptor and writer who also designed posters, book covers and medals. Born in Paris, he studied at the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam, began his career in Brussels, and went on to teach in Rotterdam, direct art schools in 's-Hertogenbosch and Amsterdam, and from 1931 hold a professorship at the Technische Hogeschool Delft. He wrote widely on art, including books on Rubens, Spanish painters and Jan Sluijters. His work is held by the Rijksmuseum, the Amsterdam Museum and the Noordbrabants Museum.
