Hilma af Klint Prints

About Hilma af Klint

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish painter, born in 1862 at Karlberg Palace in Solna, just outside Stockholm, and died in 1944. She studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in the 1880s. Alongside this she was drawn to spiritualism, and in 1896 she founded a group of five women, known as The Five, who held séances and recorded messages they believed came from higher guides.

In 1906 Hilma af Klint began Paintings for the Temple, a cycle of 193 works finished in 1915 that includes some of the earliest abstract paintings in Western art, made years before better-known pioneers. Its most famous part, The Ten Largest (1907), uses huge, softly coloured shapes, spirals and letters to trace the stages of human life from childhood to old age. She asked that her abstract work stay unseen until twenty years after her death. Today it is cared for by a foundation in Stockholm, and the Guggenheim's 2018–19 exhibition of her work became the most visited in that museum's history.

Hilma af Klint prints: reproductions of the abstract paintings Swedish painter Hilma af Klint made between 1906 and 1916, most of them from her cycle Paintings for the Temple. Works in the collection include The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth (1907), The Swan, No. 17 (1915), Altarpiece No. 1, Group X (1915), The US Series, Group VIII, No. 7 (1913) and The Parsifal Series, No. 1 (1916).

This selection concentrates on her major series. It includes most of The Ten Largest, works from The Swan, the Altarpieces, the Evolution and Seven-Pointed Star groups, Primordial Chaos and the US Series. The works use circles, spirals, petals and symmetrical forms in soft pinks, oranges, blues and yellows, alongside stark black-and-white pairings in The Swan. A three-print Statement Trio set is also available.

The soft-coloured Ten Largest paintings suit living rooms, bedrooms and above a sofa; the geometric Swan and Altarpiece works suit studies, hallways and modern interiors. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
